who can cheer?

Cheer is open to athletes from Pre-K through 5th grade.

πŸŽ€ No experience required.
πŸŽ€ Beginners welcome.
πŸŽ€ We’ll teach the rest.

Eligibility is determined by current school grade and age cutoff dates, with players generally participating at their enrolled grade level. In limited circumstances, a player may be approved to play up one grade in accordance with league rules. Playing down a grade is not permitted for safety reasons.

What CHEERLEADERS Learn

Our focus is long-term developmentβ€”on and off the field.

πŸŽ€ Teamwork and communication
πŸŽ€ Confidence in front of crowds and groups
πŸŽ€ School spirit and community pride
πŸŽ€ Basic cheer motions, chants, and sideline routines
πŸŽ€ Leadership, sportsmanship, and encouragement
πŸŽ€ How to support teammates and represent Bulldog Nation with pride

Younger divisions focus on fun, participation, confidence-building, and learning the basics.

Older divisions gradually introduce more advanced routines, leadership responsibilities, and performance skills in an age-appropriate environment.

Coaching & Safety

Safety is not optionalβ€”it is built into every layer of the program.

Coach requirements include:

πŸŽ€ Background checks (renewed every two years)

πŸŽ€ Completion of Concussion Awareness and Heat Illness Prevention training

πŸŽ€ Signed Codes of Conduct

πŸŽ€ Compliance with RDYFA coaching eligibility standards

A young girl and a coach or adult are sitting closely on the grass with the girl's arm around the adult's shoulders, engaging in a heartfelt or emotional moment.

RDYFA also maintains clear behavior and conduct expectations for coaches, players, and parents to ensure a respectful, positive environment at all games and practices.

Season Overview

While specific dates may vary year to year, a typical season follows this structure:

  • Practices/Camps begin: Early July

    • Helmets and shoulder pads are phased in gradually

    • Full-pad practices begin later in July to reduce injury risk

  • Regular season games:Late August through October

  • Playoffs:Late October into November

  • Game days: Saturdays, with staggered start times by grade

Each team typically plays up to 8 regular-season games, with playoff opportunities determined by league standings and eligibility.
